Theresa is currently involved in, not only writing her own music, but also collaborating with two/three other people who she met through the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers . With increasing interest from artists from London and other areas wishing to collaborate on new projects Theresa is looking forward to an exciting career in songwriting.
She is now a full time member of the International Songwriters Association
Her main styles are Ballad and Pop, but is now exploring new styles such as Rock (for her collaborate in Africa), R&B, Country and even Blues.
To date Theresa has worked on over 90 songs with the people she collaborates with - (plus many more in the bi-line), has written over 50 of her own songs and is now busy working on some home recordings for two CD's, with a third CD currently in development. Theresa has even and has gained some Honorable mention certificates/awards for her material from Billboard World Song Contest for "I Want, I Promise you, and I Just Turn Around".
Theresa has a very keen interest in exploring new styles and new ventures and hopes to work more in the future with others who wish to collaborate on material, as well as writing for artists/bands. Theresa is always interested in new and exciting challenges, you will even find some songs written for a singer in London featured on the Samples page
Although songs are her main forte, amongst her compositions you will find the occasional instrumental piece written during her first (and second) college years when her interest for song writing grew.
It was whilst in Barnsley College (1995 -1999, she discovered a magazine called "The Stage", which had details of a company specialized for songwriters and composers, which provides assistance for them with free copyrighting, guides to PRS, MCPS and more called the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers. Through this company, songwriters can enter their name on a collaborate list to get an opportunity to work with others either writing lyrics or music. Theresa chose to collaborate with providing music. Not long after, in late 1999, the first collaborate, Leonard Hainsworth sent the first collaborate song, not long after (over the space of 2 years) she was contacted by other writers such as Brian Bilverstone, Steven Wood, Jack Donachie, Stephen Lubega Balyejjusa, (+others), to this date Jack and Stephen are the two which keep in regular contact with Theresa and keep her busy by sending songs regularly and are working on forming new collaborations with other songwriters.
On first entering Barnsley College, Theresa's passion was to play and perform the piano, which just shows how often - what you want to do may not always be what you're really good at. In Barnsley, Theresa was introduced to more serous composition and she found this held more interest for her than playing. By the second/third year, performance wasn't as great an issue as composing, and had already written several songs at this stage.
The first songs she wrote, (that were performed on stage), were featured in a production at her first college, Hopwood Hall 1993 -1995. The group she was in had to write their own piece of theatre, which was based on Edward Munch's painting "The Scream". The play was about his life, (how depressed and deperate he was, his fears of death and how life can change. For the play Theresa wrote three songs "Misery", "Changes" and "Only The Strong Survive". From these three sets of lyrics, the first two were chosen.
Little did she know she would be involved in this type of project, initially Theresa went to Hopwood to study Music, but soon discovered it was a Performing Arts course and she was literally thrown in at the deep end with Dancing, Acting, Music Technology and Administration Work and more. Determined not to let this discourage her she decided to stay the course anyway and has never one regretted it, describing it as the best two years of her life.
Interestingly Theresa didn't always want to study music, in fact, in school, initially music was just something she saw as a hobby and her greatest interest was Art. It was only near the end of leaving school, when faced with decisions of the future, after careful consideration she felt, her grades didn't indicate he greatest desire, and even after having receive an E in music and C in Art, she decided her love for music was so strong, she wished to continue with this venture
"I think my parents knew I loved music more than I did, my first ever real keyboard was a Casio VL Tone, which, unbelievably I still have today.... ha :)"
" And now... well now I think I've progressed a lot, I'm writing for at least 3 people with more approaching me as I go on. I have written for at least 7 people altogether, (as well as music for a play and a short film). Someone asked me how many songs I have! Including collaborations? Who knows? I would estimate, over 170 or so songs to my name and still writing!. Considering I got a poor grade for music in school I think this is extremely good, don't you?... I've even worked at putting together my own home studio... we'll Mini home studio that is. Basically it's my PC, Cubasis Av, (a sequencer I got with the sound card) and a Microphone (a gift form my brother). It may not be much, but now I can produce my own basic demos and demos for the people I collaborate with, even eventually my own CD's."
